Takotsubo syndrome in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic: An integrative review

Introduction: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is characterized by a temporary left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction, usually in the context of acute physical or emotional stress. Thus, stress mechanism generated pandemic and COVID-19 infection has been related to this syndrome. Objective: To analyze, through literature review, relationship between Syndrome, taking into account pathophysiological mechanisms involved. Methods: This review with searches performed July 2022, using PubMed database. Results Discussion: 29 articles were selected, after full evaluation, main findings show an increase incidence TTS general population patients COVID-19. The involved include catecholamines cortisol, cytokine storm, microvascular dysfunction direct action SARS-COV-2 on cardiomyocytes endothelium, addition psychological burden resulting from pandemic. Conclusion: stress-induced cardiomyopathy expected population, driven psychosocial consequences period. Therefore, it imperative that clinicians are familiar clinical presentation, possible complications, management TTS.
